Rising Powers Arc

Now four members strong, Midnight Brunch, fled the Kormer Republic after making enemies of powerful people and learning something of their plans. When they arrived in Glindreng, the military was waiting for them and took them into custody for protection and questioning. The party, and the three hundred changelings that accompanied them, were moved on a train to the city of Kaerholm. A marvel of utmost secrecy until very recently, when the Empress Nula of Glindreng unveiled it the world. The train was powered by new Furven technology, the first innovation in the nearly two hundred years since the sudden demise of Furven himself.

That protection, whether for the party or the new form of transit, was quickly proven necessary, as they were attacked enroute. A retinue of monstrous foes came crashing down on their train, giving little care that the military was providing protection. A battle ensued that nearly cost the lives of the party, but they emerged victorious and made the rest of the journey to Kaerholm safely.

Once arrived and settled it, the military questioned the party – thoroughly. Each member was debriefed for nearly a day, until the powers that by seemed satisfied with the results. Midnight Brunch was released from protective custody and allowed to roam the city. They reported in at the Company of Blades local house and rejoined with Commander Sol-ath.

Sol-ath was quite curious about their activities and provided an update on the tensions between Glindreng and the Kormer Republic. The two nations were not yet at war, but border skirmishes were breaking out. Merchants and other civilians were being accosted by assailants on the waters of Lake Domar and surrounding areas. The military believes that these groups were hired by the Dragon Families to antagonize Glindreng into war.

In response, the military had sought out the help of the Company of Blades and other reputable mercenaries to provide protection. This way, they could keep a sort of diplomatic balance – protecting the civilians while not engaging with the military. This heightened state of security meant nightly along the waters of the nearby Lake Domar and Sol-ath wanted Midnight Brunch to come along on one.

Their patrol found a group of mysterious individuals, sneaking toward Kaerholm. They decided it was better to attempt an interception and attacked the group before they could reach the city. The strange fighters were coated in a sort of liquid metal and, once defeated, the party found people underneath it. These people did not seem to be mercenaries, but rather farmers, beggars, miners, and they all seemed to have been deceased before the fight began. This new information worried Commander Sol-ath and the Glindrengan military as they had never seen a foe like this.

Their personal quests still pressing them forward, Midnight Brunch left the city of Kaerholm to the capital of Glindreng, Drogmara. Their journey took them up the coast via a river boat and they were attacked again by similar metallic humanoids. Repelling the attackers revealed no new information to our heroes, only deepening their worry for a coming war.

After nearly two weeks of travel, the party arrived in Drogmara and set about pursuing some of their own curiosities.
